Visual Field Test

VISUAL FIELD TEST

A perimetry test, or visual field test, measures all aspects of your vision, including your peripheral vision. Based on the results of this test, our doctors are able to identify areas of potential vision loss. They can also identify certain patterns of vision loss as symptoms of various eye diseases, and aid in proper diagnosis. For example, losing peripheral vision is a sign of glaucoma. The Visual Field test can also gauge the effectiveness of certain treatments.

The test is easy to administer and usually takes only a few minutes. Patients are asked to look into a machine called a perimeter and press a button each time they see a flashing light.

Corneal Topographer

CORNEAL TOPOGRAPHER

The corneal topographer is used to gather detailed information about the surface of your cornea to better fit contacts and treat a number of eye conditions. It also helps to ensure the success of the following procedures:

  • Cataract surgery
  • Ortho-k
  • Refractive surgery (including LASIK)
  • Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation

This noninvasive imaging technique provides a three-dimensional map of the surface of your cornea. The scan is completely painless, and only takes a few seconds from start to finish, measuring several thousand points across the cornea.

Non-Contact Tonometer

NON-CONTACT TONOMETER

The noncontact tonometer is most commonly used to test for glaucoma and gauge the effectiveness of glaucoma treatment. Glaucoma is a fairly common eye disease that can lead to blindness if the optic nerve at the back of your eyes is damaged by a buildup of pressure.

This device works by using a puff of air to measure the pressure inside your eyes, referred to as the intraocular pressure, or IOP. It is a simple, painless method to check for IOP that is easy to administer in children and adults.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography, which is sometimes referred to as an “optical ultrasound,” provides detailed retinal measurements that assist in the treatment of glaucoma and other diseases of the retina, including age-related macular degeneration, other macular ailments, and diabetic eye disease.

OCT is a noninvasive imaging test that uses light waves to capture highly detailed 3D cross-sectional images of the retina. It goes beyond the surface of the retina, which allows doctors a closer look of the retina, to take accurate measurements, and to ensure its overall health.

OPTOS

The Optos Exam produces high resolution images of your retina that allows for highly effective wellness screenings, as well as the early detection and treatment of diseases affecting the retina, including retinal damage, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

The exam is quick, painless, and typically does not require dilation. It also allows patients to view retinal images during exams and provides a state-of-the-art 200-degree view of the retina that becomes a permanent part of your medical file. If you continue to have the Optos exam each year, you will have a complete retinal history that makes it easy to detect abnormal changes in your eyes.

I've been coming here for years now since I grew up in HH, and though I now live in the OC, I'm still willing to make the drive out here for eye exams because they have optometrists I trust.
