How Does MiSight 1 Day Work?

The ActivControl technology in MiSight 1-day uses vision correction zones and treatment zones within the lenses to slow axial elongation. Multifocal lenses, like MiSight, are shaped like a bullseye, with the zones—from the center radiating outward—correcting how light is focused within the eye.

The center zone or middle of the bullseye corrects nearsightedness by focusing light on the retina. The center zone allows clearer distance vision, much like a traditional contact lens.

The outer zone (surrounding the bullseye center) redirects peripheral light rays to focus on the retina. Changing how peripheral light focuses within the eye slows eye growth to prevent myopic progression. In traditional contact lenses, peripheral light focuses behind the retina, stimulating eye growth.

With MiSight, children simultaneously experience corrected vision while slowing myopia progression. On average, MiSight can help slow myopia progression by 59% when used as directed.

To achieve benefits, patients should wear the lens for a minimum of 10 hours daily at least 6 days a week. The lenses are daily disposables, discarded after wearing once, and should not be worn overnight.

Can My Child Wear MiSight Lenses?

MiSight 1-day lenses are prescribed for children ages 8–12. Soft contact lenses are typically considered easier to wear, and many children can handle MiSight lenses. 95–100% of children preferred wearing their MiSight 1-day contact lenses over glasses.

However, not all children are good candidates for contact lenses. The most crucial factors when considering a contact lens for a child are their hygiene habits and their desire to wear contacts. For many children, being committed can go a long way to making the experience easier and more rewarding.

Consider your child’s normal hygiene habits. You know them best and are likely the best judge of how well they’ll carry out necessary contact lens care. Daily disposable soft contact lenses can be easier to handle, as children don’t need to clean them for reuse.

If you’re unsure if your child is a good candidate, discuss your concerns with their eye doctor. Our eye care team members at Golden Vision Optometry can help you determine if your child may benefit from MiSight.

Effective Results of MiSight 1 Day

MiSight was the first FDA-approved multifocal contact lens for myopia control in children. In a clinical trial, MiSight 1-day contact lenses demonstrated effective results for myopia control.

In one study, MiSight lenses successfully:

  • Reduced rate of eye elongation by 52%
  • Reduced rate of prescription change by 59%

A 3-year clinical study found that:

  • 90% of children successfully handle their MiSight lenses without the help of their parents
  • Over 95% of parents reported that their children were happy with their comfort, improved vision, ease of use, and freedom from glasses
